We’ve all been the new kid at some point in our lives, and starting at a new workplace can feel just as intimidating. It can be overwhelming diving into an environment with new faces, responsibilities, and new employee orientation training all at once. Because of this, we often become our own worst critics, who are quick to overthink the smallest things. But all it takes is one significant situation to break the ice.
A great company values its employees starting on day one. For Nox Group, we have a New Employee Orientation, or NEO, to help onboard and establish all of our new employees into the enterprise. We also introduce them to an internal social platform for our employees to connect, share events, recognize teammates, celebrate milestones, and to provide an accessible hub of company resources. It’s important for us to ensure your first impression of our culture is welcoming by fostering a sense of community through simple actions.
Keeping New Employee Orientation Light and Fun
Vince Griego, one of the Craft Trainers at our Reno, Nevada office, does an amazing job coaching our new hires through their NEO. Our goal is for anyone hired onto the team to know we value them as both a person and an employee. We know learning about our whole industrial enterprise can be a lot of information to digest on your first day. So team members like Vince make it a point to engage his classes by keeping the mood light and fun.
“After spending 8 hours together, it makes them more comfortable to have a familiar face in the warehouse, office, and field. We are a resource for them even after their first day.”
-Vince Griego
One way we like to break the ice is by having our craft trainers prompt their NEO class to gather in for a group selfie. While guiding them through the platform and its functions, their craft trainer posts the photo and writes a short caption welcoming them to the company, while encouraging employees to engage with the post and new hires. This happens multiple times a week across our offices in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada as we welcome new employees.

“It is a long orientation, we just try to tie everything together and show them the why and the benefits of it while we’re getting to know everybody. Like we say, ‘One Team with One Purpose’”
-Vince Griego
While being new may be scary at first, it gives us a fresh start and a chance at new opportunities. We want to form a connection with you on day one, so it’s important we let our employees know that we all have to start somewhere. A simple photo becomes a reminder that you’re part of a team that sees and supports you. Having a photo of your first day is pretty rare, but down the line, it will be a great reminder of how far you’ve come.
